Walk Once a Week (WOW) Initiative – November 2013

December 3, 2013

We are very excited to have started taking part in the new walk to school project which is being run with the national charity Living Streets and Hertfordshire County Council.

The main focus of the project will be the ‘Walk once a Week’ (WoW) initiative which all of our pupils can participate in either by walking to school, park and stride or riding on their scooter! Each morning the children will self-register how they travelled to school on the Interactive whiteboard program and  at the end of each month, children who walked to school at least once a week will receive a special collectable pin badge.

Last week the children had a special assembly to launch this initiative where they discussed the benefits of walking to school; encouraging a healthy lifestyle, caring for and enjoying the environment around them and also not forgetting the fun aspect of walking and talking with friends and family!

On Friday Key stage 2 children from the School council braved the wet weather while they carried out a survey walking the main routes to school and to discuss the importance of road safety.

Today the children were greeted by Buster and Strider as they arrived at school to launch our special ‘Walk to School Day’ to promote this exciting new initiative. All children received a Strider pin badge in registration today.

We hope that you join in with this fun project so your family can enjoy the benefits of walking to school!

If you have any questions about the programme, please contact Mrs Newing at school or visit www.livingstreets.org.uk/walktoschool
