Year 5 Noisy Classroom Workshop 1.12.14

December 5, 2014

The Noisy Classroom is a training organisation dedicated to promoting and supporting the use of speaking and listening in the classroom. They visited Year 5 on 1st December and taught them how to structure a formal debate.

The children learnt about the role of the ‘chair’, timekeeper and speakers. They proposed motions, opposed them and introduced their arguments with the phrase ‘this house believes…..’

They were introduced to the idea of a rebuttal and how to politely explain that you do not agree with someone’s points.

The subject areas they discussed ranged from pay for footballers, mobile phone use and beauty pageants for children. As you can imagine it was a lively and interesting session!
