Ashmolean Museum visit, 17.03.15

March 19, 2015

Year 5 had a fascinating day at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford as part of their studies of the Ancient Greeks.

They saw a special exhibition of Greek sculpture that was not the usual monochrome marble, but painted in their original vibrant colours.

The high-light was when the children had the opportunity to handle genuine Greek artefacts that were over 2,000 years old. Amongst other items, they handled an ancient bronze discus that might have been used in the early Olympics and a beautiful terracotta pot that was used to store precious possessions.

The children carried out a scavenger hunt and saw just a snap-shot of what this fabulous museum has to offer.
