Dacorum mixed under 11’s Table Tennis Tournament

October 22, 2015

On October 6th Greenway sent 8 pupils to the Cavendish school in Hemel Hempstead to compete at the Dacorum mixed under 11’s table tennis tournament, where the winners would progress through to a level 3 tournament.

We selected 4 boys and 4 girls to go to the event and represent Greenway. The 8 chosen had 1 week to prepare and hone their skills.

The boys and girls had to compete against 6 other Primary schools from Dacorum. Each team ranked their top 4 boys and girls 1-4, with 1 being the best, so that they competed against the same rank from opposition schools. They played each opponent 3 times, first to with 2 clear points. The points contributed to a running total which was then used to work out a cumulative team score throughout the evening. The team with the best point’s margin won.

The girls got off to a rocky start, playing the eventual winners first. After a narrow loss to Reddings primary school, the girls regained their confidence and started to build momentum. The girls ended up second placed which was a tremendous result considering they had never been involved in such a tournament before.

The boys flew out of the blocks, dominating anyone that stood between them and glory. There were just a few hiccups along the way as the boys finished up with only 4 individual game loses. They meant they had accumulated a huge win margin in all their games. Sure enough the boys took home first place and will be embarking on the level 3 competition in December!

We are extremely proud and delighted of both teams who really took everything in their stride and most importantly, never gave up.
