Greenway boys and girls football vs Leverstock Green,Tuesday 8th December

December 9, 2015

On Tuesday 8th December, Greenway boys and girls had a double header football fixture vs Leverstock Green. Both games kicked off at 4pm under the floodlights of Ashlyns school astro.

The boys made a relatively quick start to the game, gaining a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes through Matej and Charlie. Then in traditional Greenway boys manner they conceded to make the score line 2-1. From this point, it seemed the 1 opposing goal had injected memory loss to the boys. They stopped doing the simple things and invited pressure from Leverstock Green, who were more than happy to seize their moment. The score quickly became level and the boys still didn’t show any signs of playing the great football we all know they can play. Thankfully, a short corner and lack of attention from Levi saw Greenway take the lead again through Charlie. But the visitors wouldn’t give up and again clawed one back which again brought balance to the game.

The second half saw a considerably slow start from both sides, with neither team pushing on to take a grasp on the game. Eventually, the Greenway substitutes of Matej and Charlie took the game by the scruff of the neck. With Charlie’s organisation at the back and Matej’s sheer determination, Greenway restored their lead and then gained another just moments before the final whistle to take the game 5-3 and seal all 3 points. Man of the match has to go to Matej for his determination throughout the game.

Meanwhile, the girls had a very different story. They were having a field day, with goals flying in left, right and centre. It’s difficult to report on much because so much was happening. The girls were commanding the entire pitch and the game was very one-sided. The girls took a strong 5-0 win going into the second period and just kept going. It was a rather relentless display as the girls showed no signs of mercy or even taking their feet of the gas. Final score was 11-0 with goals from Erin x2, Elise x2, Izzy x2, Elinor x2, Annie x2(goalkeeper turned striker) and Holly. Well done to all of the girls but Girl of the Match goes to everyone as it was quite hard to decide who impacted the game most.
