Year 2 Athletics Competition, 2.2.16

February 8, 2016

On Tuesday 2nd February, the Year 2’s had the opportunity of and exciting day out. Their Journey took them to Berkhamsted Sportspace to compete at a Year 2 athletics competition. All week, Year 2’s in Dacorum would be heading to local sports centres and secondary schools to compete in a host of events including sprinting, javelin, obstacle courses, speed bouncing, balancing and long jump.

The classes were divided into groups and were set off on activities at the stations. They had 10 minutes to post their best scores on each station which at the end of the week would be tallied up to see which school had won and would go on to represent Dacorum at the Herts school games.

Each event saw some fantastic efforts from the Year 2’s. The results looked very promising and it seemed that some prior preparations were paying off. It was a long afternoon, but the efforts from the Year 2’s were admirable as they never even contemplated giving up! It was fair to say they were tired by the end of the event and then had the daunting uphill walk back to Greenway.

A long anxious wait finally withered on Friday afternoon as it was announced that Greenway finished top overall! Greenway team 1 which consisted of 4 boys and 4 girls came out eventual winners. The girls sat top of their leader board, likewise did the boys. So a successful Tuesday afternoon for the Year 2’s at Greenway!
