Yrs 5/6 cricket & mini red tennis, 30.6.16

July 15, 2016

On Thursday 30th June, Greenway Year 5/6 boys cricket team and mini red tennis team went to the Herts school games finals to represent Dacorum.

The boys cricket team had been somewhat unsettled. The Year 6’s were away in Letton on this day so the Year 5 boys and 2 Year 4’s stepped up to take the lead. They soon realised the standard they were playing was high. They narrowly lost the first game and tried not to let the dropped catches get to their heads. They then lost the 2nd match and heads could have easily dropped but the boys kept fighting. They won the 3rd match which meant they had done enough to get into the plate final. This was for the teams that had not progressed to see who would be placed 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. The boys rallied together to win the match which meant they were placed 5th overall. This meant they were the 5th best placed team in the county for Year 5/6 cricket which is a huge achievement! When you consider the change to the team and step up, it becomes an even more phenomenal achievement. As a consolation, the boys also won the school games passion award for being the most passionate team!

Meanwhile, the tennis group were competing too. They are all competing extremely well! They all played as individuals ranked 1 and 2 for boys and girls. Their points would then be added to each others to get a team score. Daniel won all of his matches, Fraser won 3 and lost 3, Rebecca won 3 and lost 3 and Lily won 4 and lost 2. Against each team everyone would play 1 game and then scores are added. In the group stages the girls and boys had done enough to reach a 5th/6th playoff. They won this match narrowly to be placed 5th at the county mini red tennis Herts school games. They also managed to win the school game award for determination meaning they showed the best determination all day!
