Yrs 5/6 girl’s cricket, 6.7.16

July 15, 2016

On Wednesday 6th July, Greenway’s Year 5/6 girls cricket team represented Dacorum at the Herts school games finals.

They would compete against 8 other teams to be crowned County champions. The first game was very close. The girls had to bat first and set a respectable score of 236. They then had to put on a good bowling and fielding performance. Towards the end the opposition came close to Greenway’s total. However, in the final over, a sublime diving catch from Izzy dropped the opposition’s total down to 232. Greenway won this match by that narrow victory.

The next match saw Greenway bat first again and this time they set themselves a smaller total of 226. They then went out and bowled really well but unfortunately didn’t take enough wickets and lost the match. Had they not had 3 outs during the batting they would have been just 1 run behind the eventual winners!

In the final group game, the girls put on their best performance. They put up a huge total of 255 for the opposition to chase. The girls all managed to hit some good boundaries with some notable big hits. They then went into bowl and they bowled fantastically. The girls fielded well which kept the oppositions score down to 245. Meaning Greenway won and would progress to the semi finals.

They faced the winners of Pool B in the semis and were struggling. The oppositions bowling was very straight and very fast making it hard to hit. The wickets kept coming. Sadly, Greenway didn’t do enough to progress to the final but still had the chance to come 3rd in the 3/4th playoff.

The girls then batted really well again with some brilliant boundaries from Alice, Annie and some clever placements from Erin. The girls set up a total of 244 for the opposition and then went into bowl. The bowling was good and some catches from Annie and Izzy kept the opposition down to 237. This means that the girls were now the 3rd best Year 5/6 cricket team in Hertfordshire and also the first Greenway team to win a medal at the Herts school games. Therefore, the girls are the most successful Greenway team….ever! Well done!
