Mrs Heard’s visit to Year 4

May 24, 2017

Mrs Heard visited Year 4 and gave a very interesting talk about her and her family’s experience of World War Two. Mrs Heard was evacuated away from North London to Gloucestershire when she was a baby. She explained that her father drove a flame-thrower Churchill tank, she showed us her father’s medals and read us a letter that she received from a kind lady in Canada who knitted her some baby clothes. The children really enjoyed being able to handle real artefacts from this time. Mrs Heard very kindly gave each child a poppy petal that she had collected from a Remembrance ceremony that she had attended at the Royal Albert Hall. Each poppy petal represented a soldier that had fought and died for their country.
