Nursery

Nursery News, Spring 1, 2022

Nursery have really engaged with their learning this half term.

We are learning about winter and how it differs from autumn. We have been on winter walks, explored the frost and snow, created our own winter world, explored winter colours through mixing paints and ‘cold collage’ and created snowmen, snowballs and snowflakes!

We have created our own moves and dances to Vivaldi’s ‘Winter’ music in PE and created our own winter music to dance to as well.

Everyone has enjoyed the story of ‘Winnie In Winter’ by Korky Paul & Valerie Thomas and ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. We have also explored non-fiction books on the seasons, weather and animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic.

We have also been learning about Chinese New Year in RE and have enjoyed exploring the story of The Chinese New Year. We are very excited that 2022 is the year of The Tiger!

We have watched dragon dances and listened to Chinese music and enjoyed seeing their celebrations. We then created a huge dragonhead, which we have enjoyed using for our own Chinese Dragon Dances. We have created our own dragon dance music, dragon and tiger puppets and dragon masks. We also created calendars to begin the New Year. The one in the attached photograph shows one of the Nursery children with their family.

The children have chosen ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ story by Judith Kerr for after half term, continuing with their interest in tigers. They also want to learn more about polar bears and penguins…
