Admissions Procedure
The school and Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) operates two separate admission systems for Nursery and Reception. This means that the offer of a place in Nursery does not guarantee a place in school.

Nursery
The next round of admissions for Nursery is September 2024:
If your child was born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, you will be able to make an application for a nursery school place to start in September 2024.
Children are accepted into Nursery in the September before their fourth birthday.
Applications for Nursery are made directly with the school. Please complete the online Nursery Application Form here once the application process begins as per the dates below.
(Please note that our system does not allow for an automatic email confirmation of an application being made. You should receive an email from school within a week to confirm receipt of the application. If you do not hear within that timeframe, please contact school on admin@greenway.herts.sch.uk)
Once the process is closed as per the dates below you can make a late application here.
If you do make a late application please email admin@greenway.herts.sch.uk to let us know.

The following timeline for Nursery applications is being followed by the schools listed:

Monday 26th February 2024 – Nursery applications open. Application via online form on the school website (paper copies are available from the school on request) Click here for form, accessible from 26.02.24
Thursday 28th March 2024 – Nursery applications close for on time applications . Applications can be accepted at any point after this date, but will be dealt with after on time applications. If you are making a late application, please also ring the school office to let us know on 01442 866249.
Friday 19th April 2024 – Nursery places are offered to families by email
Friday 26th April 2024 – Deadline for accepting Nursery places
(From 26.04.24 onwards we can continue to accept applications and allocate Nursery places to children, based on availability).
Parents moving to the area are advised to phone the school to discuss admission procedures.
The application process will start in February 2024. There will be opportunities to visit the school during this period as per the following dates:-
Visit dates for prospective Nursery 2024 intake:-
- Tuesday 16th January, 9.15 – 10.15am
- Wednesday 7th February, 9.15 – 10.15am
- Tuesday 27th February, 9.15 – 10.15am
- Tuesday 5th March, 9.15 – 10.15am
All tours start at 9.15 am and will last for approximately 1 hour.

The school has always been very popular and is often over-subscribed. If there are more requests than places, the school will use the HCC criteria when making decisions.

Reception
Children are accepted into Reception class in the September of the school year they are 5.
Applications for admission into primary schools to start in September 2024 are for children born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020.

Parents are informed by HCC of allocations following the closure of the admissions process in the year of Reception admission.
We invite children to visit with their parents, see their new classroom and meet their new teacher, the term before admission. In addition, an evening meeting for parents is organised a few weeks before new children are due to enter school, so that they can meet other parents and have any questions answered by the Head Teacher.

In Year Admissions
An application to move between schools straight away (or within a few weeks) is known as an In Year application. This is when a child wishes to transfer to another school outside of the usual transfer time, for example because of a change of address.
