Nursery celebrating Chinese New Year

Nursery has really enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year!

We have explored the story behind Chinese New Year and discovered that this is the year of the Pig.

We listened to Chinese celebratory music and then created our own with instruments. We have also looked at the amazing dragon masks, costumes and puppets used in street celebrations and then created our own masks and a dragon head – which we used in our own celebratory dance.

We created New Year cards and looked at Chinese writing and how it is different from English.

Eating rice, noodles and prawn crackers was another highlight as was engaging in sensory play with left-over noodles, food dye and oil!
