Year 1

Elm News, Spring 1 2022

We have had a fantastic half term in Year 1 learning about many wonderful things!

The children were very keen to learn about The Great Fire of London, why and where it started, and what happened because of it.

In Science, we have been learning about animals, thinking about nocturnal animals as well as herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

In PE, we have linked our dance unit to science and created a dance sequence using small and big animals and signature movements that they make.

Place value has been the key in maths this half term, exploring larger numbers and discussing how they are made up of strong tens and sad lonely ones!

In English, the children have been using the storybooks Farmer Duck and Journey. They all retold the story with a storyboard and sentences as well as writing a fantastic postcard to Mum and Dad as the duck telling them all about their adventures. We then explored their postcards and up-levelled them with adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

In PSHE, we have been setting ourselves Dreams and Goals. We created our Garden of Dreams and Goals showing a welly, illustrating a shared goal that they discussed with a partner as well as a creating a stretchy flower representing how we need to stretch our learning when faced with a new challenge.
