British Science Week Paper Engineering Challenge.
STEM Challenge 2023
In March 2023, Years 3, 4 and 5 took on the British Science Week Paper Engineering Challenge.
This was as a competition across all schools in Hertfordshire run by STEMPOINT.
The challenge was to ‘Create a Bird’ using 4 sheets of plain or coloured A4 paper only (from the recycling bin).
The children could only use scissors and their engineering skills to create their birds – no glue, sticky tape, staples or paper clips!
After practising techniques and learning/researching about birds, the children had one hour to complete the challenge.
The children recycled their models at the end of the competition.
We were delighted to find out that Meade in Year 4 was the overall winner of LKS2 competition with her brilliant model of a ‘Seameade’. Congratulations to Meade, we are very proud of you! Meade’s prize is a fantastic ‘multi-purpose nesting box’ so she and her family can enjoy more wildlife in their garden.
