Wildflower Meadow Project, 29.04.25
Children from Years 1-6 have been helping with a local Open Door Community Garden project. The project hopes to create many new meadows that will be attractive to butterflies and other pollinators.
Years 1 and 2 have planted seed in the raised beds by their class doors.
Wild flower seeds do not do well if planted onto well-established grass so we decided the older children would use the bare earth by the Greenway rainbow. However, the children needed to prepare the ground by first removing the covering of bark, then the ‘anti-weed’ membrane and finally raking the soil to a fine crumbly texture. They were finally ready to plant the wild flower mix provided by the garden project.
All the children worked incredibly hard and managed to complete the task in just one week. Year 6 will now be keeping the garden watered and we are hoping that our meadows will flourish!
