Year 5

Year 5 STEM  Challenge 29.01.26

On 29.01.26, Year 5 entered the ‘Sustainable Aircraft of the Future’ competition organised by the RAF and presented by the Smallpeice Trust.

First, Year 5 experimented by making gliders with different empennage and wing designs. They calculated their glider’s speeds and evaluated their work.

Next was the competition challenge to imagine design a sustainable aircraft of the future. Year 5 had some excellent and highly inventive ideas ranging from a congestion evading bus to drones with the ability to spread seeds, put out forest fires and defend the skies. They thought long and hard about how their aircraft would be sustainable.

Later in the year, Year 5 will attend an interactive online event, with real life STEM professionals.

Well done Year 5, you are going to be shaping the future!
